  41.        If you are installing this product for the first time, the
  42.        subsystems marked ``default'' are the ones that are
  43.        installed if you use the ``go'' menu item.  To install a
  44.        different set of subsystems, use the ``install,''
  45.        ``remove,'' ``keep,'' and ``step'' commands in _i_n_s_t to
  46.        customize the list of subsystems to be installed, then
  47.        select the ``go'' menu item.

  81.        All of the subsystems for Cosmo Worlds can be installed on
  82.        an active system.  However, after installing some patches,
  83.        you will be required to reboot your system.  Refer to the
  84.        _I_R_I_S _S_o_f_t_w_a_r_e _I_n_s_t_a_l_l_a_t_i_o_n _G_u_i_d_e for complete installation
  85.        instructions.

  87.        2.4  _P_r_e_r_e_q_u_i_s_i_t_e_s

  89.        Your workstation must be running at least release 6.2 of
  90.        IRIX in order to use this version of Cosmo Worlds.
  91.  
  92.        You must also install four patches if you are running on
  93.        IRIX 6.2; see below and in Chapter 5 for more details.

  95.        Finally, you should install several optional data subsystems
  96.        to increase the range of the sample data available to you;
  97.        see below for more details.

  173.        We _s_t_r_o_n_g_l_y _r_e_c_o_m_m_e_n_d that you install the following
  174.        optional subsystems since they contain very useful 3D
  175.        models, materials, and textures.  These software subsystems
  176.        are included on your IRIX operating system CD, but are not
  177.        installed by default.

  179.        If you do not install these subsystems, you find that the
  180.        Texture Editor and Material Palette start out empty or
  181.        nearly empty.
  182.  
  183.        Cosmo Packager relies on several subsystems containing media
  184.        conversion tools.  These are detailed below.  If they are
  185.        not installed, you will not be able to convert certain
  186.        image, movie, and sound formats into web-safe, VRML 2.0
  187.        compliant formats.

  189.        Finally, we recommend that you install the _x_l_a_t_o_r_s__3_d
  190.        product, which contains plug-in translators which allow
  191.        Cosmo Worlds to import DXF, Alias wire, Obj, SLA, and
  192.        Softimage files.
